Summer Has Been Hot and September Looks Seasonally Warm Still:

This newsletter is going to be short and sweet as the saying goes.  Our summer in Whatcom County has been great with sunny days (maybe too hot for some) and very little rain since June. Most people also remember the cold fall, winter, and spring seasons prior to summer when individuals wished for summer sunshine, so people’s wishes came true with some very hot days the past three months. September will continue to be nice in the upcoming forecast in days ahead too.

With the heat it has made it too hot for some homeowners to work outside to keep their landscaping well-kept and this happens too during the cold months so it is important to find a balance for some neighbors to do yardwork early in the am or later in the evening as yardwork upkeep is never ending, and not sporadic.   Please keep this in mind as neighbors expect yards to be kept up per the CC& R’s. If need be, look for temporary landscaping assistance with professionals or if it is just weeding and small chores around the yard there might be some neighborhood teenagers that could assist homeowners too.

Keep in mind the Blaine School District started school this fall on August 30th. This is a picture of some of the local neighborhood kids you might see at the bus stop now that school has resumed.  This photo was provided on their first day going back to school by their Mom Allison Rosenberger.  Some of you might recognize the neighbor kids in the photo as they both walk the neighborhood.  The picture is Allison’s daughter Megan who is in high school and her son Reagan who is in middle school.  Either one of them also are interested  and may be available for fall small jobs such as weeding, yard clean-up, and more depending on individual requests and needs of those requesting specific work to arrange to do.

For information, contact Allison by phone at (360) 421-6742 if interested in small jobs and she will work with arranging meeting her kids.  It also gives our local youth work experience and some help for homeowners that might need some occasional assistance.

Dog Reminder:

Please keep in mind neighbors have been so much better over the last 6 months with minimal dog poop on the sidewalks and boulevards. Thanks to all the homeowners, families, and hired dog walkers for being extra cautious on being responsible pet owners/walkers.

One newer reminder that I have not mentioned for a long time is about a concern of dogs not being on leashes in the neighborhood at times. This concern comes from walkers and families with children for homeowners to be reminded and a request that dogs need to be on leashes when being walked or even near their own homes on the boulevard grass areas too.  The concern comes from fear of the dogs not being in command at times by the owner of a few dogs in the neighborhood. It is also important to mention that some people don’t even like to have a dog come near them or be encouraged to pet them as well.  Please be respectful of these concerns if you are a dog owner.

A few individuals are considered for their safety when dogs come at them from a distance or close up. While dogs may appear friendly (not everyone loves dogs or feels comfortable around them) the rule is for neighbors to have dogs on leashes. Please be considerate of our neighbors and families regarding this concern for possible safety issues that could arise.

Local Happenings and Activities – Always Read the Northern Light Newspaper:

If families are trying to figure out what to do this coming weekend or the month of September please refer to the Northern Light Newspaper for a full listing of great activities and events. This is free and is in mailboxes every Thursday right before the weekend arrives.

For many local neighbors that have guests and relatives visiting, you might want to have a simple outing for the afternoon or evening by checking out Peace Arch Park for a walk and enjoy the surroundings.  It is a day use park, beautiful gardens and some sculptured art too like the one in the photo submitted by Laura Howell of Castlerock Drive.
