Halloween is NOT Canceled it Just Maybe a Little Different Trick or Treating Due to Covid-19 with Suggested Pandemic Precautions:

October is a time for fall festivals, carving pumpkins, and trick or treating.  Some families may choose to stay home for family celebrations, watch movies, have scavenger hunts, and others will go ahead with Halloween Trick or Treating.

Plus, there are many local businesses that are continuing to have fall events and/or Halloween Trick or Treating with varied ways to participate in.  Listed below are places that families and children can attend now prior to the Halloween weekend too.  This is not a complete list of events and it is up to each family to look online for other events as well or share information with neighbors too.  It is always a good idea to call ahead and make sure that events, and/or businesses and farms are open before driving there due to weather, etc.

Local Whatcom County Places to Have October Fun at:

Whatcom County Trip or Treat Event on October on Friday October 30, 2020 from 3:00-7:00pm

This socially distanced Trip-or-Treat experience will allow parents to get the kids out of the house and into their cars for a drive around the county event. There will also be a Virtual Costume Contest that will take place too.  This event is put on by Whatcom County Chambers of Commerce and is a county wide Halloween event.  For more information and all the details check out the website:  https://whatcomtriportreat.com/ or call (360) 384-3042.  Plus, check out the event Facebook Page for Complete Details provided by the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce.

Halloween Events Mask Up or Wear a Face Covering for the Safety of our Neighbors and Children:

Halloween in the Loomis Trail Neighborhood will be happening for anyone that wants to participate and volunteer giving out candy, treats, and/or gifts.  It is important that all parents, guardians, and trick-or-treaters wear a mask or covering and adhere to social distancing for safety purposes.  It is recommended by health officials to stay in family groups rather than trick or treating in larger groups due to Covid-19.

Homeowners and renters will be using hopefully good judgement in giving out treats. Some ideas that are suggested when keeping the “Social Distancing” minimum of 6 feet distance is to set up a table in the driveway and have bags of candy ready to give trick or treaters rather than having children normally put their hands in a candy bowl.  There may be some creative individuals using a fishing net to hand candy out in to adhere to the 6ft distancing recommendations.  Others may use a tube to drop candy in the hands of the eager trick or treaters.  If it is not raining, individuals could also use clothes pins to hang candy bags to a tree to give the kids a choice to pick one bag too.    Whatever works for each homeowner is great as kids in the neighborhood will be excited just to have a fun event not taken away from them.  Remember, these are just ideas.

It is a good idea for homeowners and renters to turn on their porch lights for safety for kids and for the trick or treaters to know which houses are participating too.  Since Halloween this year is Saturday October 31st kids will be starting out at 5:00pm and typically it ends around 7:00pm or at least it gives those that are doing driveway tables a time to be ready and to end trick or treating especially if it is cold.  Let’s hope it does not rain as our neighborhood kids are looking forward to a fun night out. Also, the parents to that will be accompanying them.

Please remember that these are all just suggestions for those planning to participate in Trick or Treating in Loomis Trails Neighborhood or other neighborhoods. Parents and families are responsible to decide what is best for their own individual choices for their kids while keeping health and safety in mind just like any other year when people make choices to Trick or Treat.

Does Anyone Know the Owner of this Dog?

By any chance, does anyone know the owner of this dog?  There have been numerous reports in the last two weeks of this dog running through the neighborhood not on a leash and not being under the best behavior jumping on neighbors.  Those that have reported these events do not even know for sure if the dog owner lives in Loomis Trail so it would be helpful to know anything about this dog before more reports are made so the owner can be contacted to discuss these incidents.  Please send an email to [email protected] with any information.

For future information to be included in the next newsletter and/or updates, please submit no later than October 30, 2020 to [email protected].

Sincerely,
Kathy Barnes
